The SA Sport and Hunting Federation is an accredited hunting and sport organisation with the South African Police Service and are allowed to issue dedicated statuses to qualifying members.
For a member to qualify, obtain and remain a dedicated status he/she must:
- Be a paid up member
- Have completed the prescribed course(s).
- Partake in four (4) relevant activities per year, of which two (2) must be official activities of the Federation, which include but not limited to the attendance of meetings, participation in organised competitions, service as organiser or range officer.
The SA Sport and Hunting Federation also requires from a member, who wants an endorsement for a semi-automatic firearm, to be a dedicated member. It applies even if the member does not own more than four (4) firearms. A statement explaining why the member needs the semi-automatic firearm must be attached to the endorsement application.
What is the advantage of having Dedicated Status?
A member who obtained Dedicated Status may be in possession of more than four firearms for hunting and sport shooting purposes.
Dedicated Status is suited for hunters and sport shooters that regularly participate in hunting and sport shooting activities.
The Firearms Control Act compels accredited associations to have a system in place to issue and manage dedicated status. SA Sport and Hunting Federation members must make sure their activity statuses are completed annually by 31 October, towards maintaining Dedicated Sport Shooter/Hunter Status.
Members that neglect to register activities fail to meet the provisions of the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000, which will result in the cancellation of their Dedicated Sport/Hunting Status. It has severe consequences for the member.
It is the dedicated member's responsibility to make sure his recorded activities are properly displaying on the SASHF's system.
